Schultz, Shaffer Lead Bulls Past Indians

Indianapolis Indians News Release
DURHAM, N.C. - Jamie Schultz struck out 12 batters over five shutout innings, and Richie Shaffer connected for two home runs off of a pair of Major League rehabbers to help lead the Durham Bulls to a 6-1 victory over the Indianapolis Indians on Sunday evening.
Schultz (2-1) fanned every batter in the Indianapolis order at least once with the exception of Adam Frazier, who he walked twice. The 12 strikeouts tied a career high for Schultz, and he conceded just three hits on the way to the victory.
Shaffer entered Sunday night's game without a homer in 2016, after hitting 30 between three levels in 2015. His long-ball fortunes changed when he hit a two-run blast off of rehabbing Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jared Hughes in the bottom of the fifth inning. At the time, it gave the Bulls (10-8) a 3-0 advantage.
After the Indians (8-7) brought a run back in the sixth, Shaffer lined a home run over the left-field wall to erase the Tribe effort in the seventh. His second was off of rehabbing left-hander, Cory Luebke. Kyle Roller followed with a home run of his own, and the Bulls plated three runs in the frame.
Josh Bell extended his hitting streak to eight games with a pair of singles. He drove in the lone Indianapolis run in the sixth inning, and he leads the International League with 15 runs batted in.
Jung Ho Kang, also with the Tribe on rehab assignment from the Pirates, drew a walk as a pinch hitter in the top of the ninth inning.
Wilfredo Boscan (1-2) allowed just one earned run over four innings, but he received the loss. Hughes conceded two runs in his two frames, both on Shaffer's first home run. Three runs came across during Luebke's two innings of work, and the left-hander struck out five Bulls batters.
The loss drops the Indians to .500 on their current eight-game road trip, and they'll play the fifth contest of the excursion on Monday night in Durham. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
