Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
BIG-INNING BLUES: Chris Parmelee launched his first SWB home run, but a seven-spot a half-inning earlier doomed his SWB RailRiders in a 9-4 loss to the Syracuse Chiefs on Saturday afternoon.
BROOMS READY: With a win on Sunday, Syracuse can notch its first-ever sweep of SWB during the Yankees era in a series of three or more games. The Chiefs entered the series with losses in seven of nine.
ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US: Gary Sanchez went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI, a steal and a run scored. His swipe of third base made for the second on his Triple-A career. The prior theft came on July 23, 2015 at Indianapolis. He has gone 31-for-42 in stolen-base tries on his pro career.
EXTRA, EXTRA!: Nine of Sanchez's 13 hits on the young year have gone for extra bases: six doubles, one triple, two homers.
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP: Last season's IL Rookie of the Year, Ben Gamel went 3-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored. He leads the team with six steals and lifted his season-long average to .300 in 15 games played. Over his last six games, Gamel has gone 9-for-22 (.409) with three steals and five runs scored.
RARE OFF DAY: Aaron Judge finished 0-for-4 with three strikeouts to snap an eight-game hitting streak. It marked just his second hitless outing of the season in 15 games played.
KENNEDY HAD A SECRETARY NAMED LINCOLN: The RailRiders have lost four straight for the first time since dropping four in a row from July 8-11, 2015. That run started with a pair of home losses to Syracuse and concluded with successive setbacks at Buffalo. This current skid began with two home losses to Buffalo and has continued with back-to-back road setbacks at Syracuse.
SNAP THE SKID: Today the RailRiders will look to avoid the franchise's first five-game slide since a six-game skid from June 25-July 1, 2015. That run started with a record-setting home loss to Louisville, 15-2.
LET'S GET SERIESOUS: Thursday night's loss to Buffalo handed the RailRiders their first home series setback since dropping two of three versus Syracuse from July 7-9, 2015. That included a 12-inning middle-game defeat at PNC Field. SWB's last home series loss in a four-game set? It came the prior series against Buffalo from July 4-6, 2015 including a July 5 day-night doubleheader. With yesterday's loss, the RailRiders have suffered their first losses in consecutive series since losing three straight sets from July 4-12, 2015 (vs. Buffalo, vs. Syracuse, at Buffalo).
OFF THE RAILS: Parmelee started in left field for the RailRiders...He entered the season with just 15 career games played in left among his 855 minor league games played...His home run was the 108th of his minor league career...The RailRiders struck out a season-worst 15 times and walked just once...SWB starter Kyle Haynes allowed two unearned runs over 6.2 innings...Reliever Tyler Olson (0-1) was charged with six runs over one inning of work...Former Syracuse Chief Richard Bleier was activated to SWB's roster off the DL...Bleier went 6-2 with a 2.75 ERA over 12 games/11 starts with last year's Chiefs...His best start came on Aug. 7, 2015 at Pawtucket when he tossed a nine-inning, six-hit shutout with a pair of strikeouts and no walks.
