Louisville Falls in Game One against Indianapolis, 5-3

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Louisville Bats (11-17) were defeated by the Indianapolis Indians (14-12) by a 5-3 score at Victory Field. Brian O'Grady hit his sixth home run of the season with a solo home run to score the first run of the game.

The Bats got on the board quickly with O'Grady and Rob Refsnyder hitting back-to-back solo shots in the top of first. O'Grady went 2-for-4 in the game bringing his batting average up to .375 and his OPS up to 1.189 this season.

There would not be another run to cross until the fifth inning, when Indianapolis starting pitcher Mitch Keller doubled to score Christian Kelley after he doubled himself. Jose Osuna hit a single to score Keller from second, and following that Will Craig hit a three-run homer, putting the Indians up 5-2 at the end of the fifth. In the top of the eighth, O'Grady singled to score Christian Colon from second to make the score 5-3.

Keury Mella (1-2, 5.46) started for the Bats, pitching 5.0 innings and giving up five runs on the same number of hits, walking three, and striking out five, taking the loss for the game. No other Bats pitcher gave up a run, with Jesus Reyes and Ian Krol both keeping the Indians hitless in their inning pitched each. Cody Reed pitched and only gave up one hit in his inning pitched, extending his scoreless streak to his last six games.

Keller (3-0, 3.48) got the win for the Indians, pitching 6.0 innings and giving up two runs on six hits and striking out six. The save went to Dovydas Neverauskas, who had two strikeouts in the ninth and came within one pitch of tossing an immaculate inning to finish off the night.

Louisville and Indianapolis stay at Victory Field to play game two of the four-game series with the first pitch set for Friday night at 7:15 p.m. It's a right-hander matchup with Vladimir Gutierrez (1-2, 8.14) set to pitch for the Bats and Alex McRae (1-2, 7.13) set to pitch for the Pittsburgh Pirates' Triple-A affiliate.
