Louisville Bats News Release
BATS VISIT THE CLIP SHOW: Louisville travels to Columbus for the first time this season in what will be the clubs' 11th matchup of the 2018 season. The Bats are coming off their fifth series win of the season, taking two of three games from the Norfolk Tides. LOU starts a 7-game road trip against two International League West division opponents before returning home for 2 games against another divisional foe, the Indianapolis Indians.
AGAINST COLUMBUS: The Bats and Clippers meet for the fourth of seven series this season, with the first 3 series taking place in Louisville. COL has gone 6-4 against LOU this season, outscoring the Bats by a narrow 49-47 margin. The clubs will play at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio for the first time all season. It's the latest into a season that the two teams have gone without playing at one's ballpark since the clubs have been in the IL West division starting in 1998. This season is also the first time the teams haven't exchanged home/road series in the opening month of the season alone since 2008.
CONSECUTIVE DUBS: Coming off the 13-12 (F/10) win Saturday and last night's 5-1 win, the Bats have won 2 straight games for the first time since they won a season-best 5 straight ballgames from May 31 to June 5 vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (5/31), vs. Gwinnett (6/1-6/3) and at Pawtucket (6/5).
WALKOFF, LEADOFF, YOU NAME IT: Center fielder Mason Williams hit a walk-off single on Saturday, and followed it up with a leadoff home run to begin Sunday's ballgame, the Bats' second leadoff homer this season after Tyler Goeddel 's on April 13 at Lehigh Valley. It's the first time the Bats have had a walk-off win and leadoff HR in back-to-back games since June 3-4, 2011 vs. Columbus, when Zack Cozart hit a leadoff HR on June 3 in a 10-4 Bats win, and Brent Clevlen delivering a walk-off single the next day in a 6-5 Bats win in 10 innings. Williams is the only individual to do it for LOU in back-to-back games since at least 2006.
MOUTH OF THE SOUTH: With the recent series against the Norfolk Tides coming to a close, the Bats have completed their home schedule against the IL South division. LOU finishes 10-6 at home against the division, including their only series sweep the season against the Gwinnett Stripers. LOU is just 1-9 against the South division on the road, however, earning its lone win on May 18 at Norfolk.
NOTHING LIKE A GOOD REED: Left-hander Cody Reed got the win Sunday, going 7.0 innings and allowing just one earned run on 5 hits, walking 3 and striking out 6 on 96 pitches (61 strikes). It's the first time in his professional career that he's gone 7.0+ innings in 3 straight starts, and he's the first Bat to do it since RHP Tim Adleman went 7.0+ in 3 straight outings from August 1-11, 2016.
RUNS ARE FUN: The Bats scored a season-high 13 runs in Saturday night's game, the most runs they have scored in a game since August 20, 2017 vs. Rochester in a 13-6 win. LOU's previous high in runs scored this season was one month ago yesterday, in a 10-2 win at Indianapolis on May 23. The 25 total runs scored by Norfolk and Louisville on Saturday made for the highest scoring Bats game since April 13, 2014 in a 20-8 loss to Toledo at LSF.
SENZEL TO MISS REST OF 2018: The Cincinnati Reds announced that top IF prospect Nick Senzel will miss the remainder of the 2018 season to undergo surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right index finger.
