Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Adam Lind drove in all three runs, as the Pawtucket Red Sox came from behind in the eighth inning to defeat the Buffalo Bisons, 3-2, in the series opener Monday night at Coca-Cola Field.

Lind clubbed a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to propel the PawSox (38-37) above the .500 mark for the first time since May 8. Pawtucket has now won six of its last seven games following a successful 5-2 homestand against Buffalo and Syracuse.

Lind (1-for-3, R, HR, 3 RBI) provided a sacrifice fly in the first inning, flew out to the warning track in left field in the third and put the PawSox ahead in the eighth. In 22 games in the Red Sox organization, the 12-year MLB veteran has totaled four homers and 15 RBIs. Pawtucket center fielder Rusney Castillo (2-for-4, R), meanwhile, added two more hits to his International League-leading total. Second baseman Iván De Jesús Jr. (2-for-4, R), who has been scorching over the last month, recorded another multi-hit game and was robbed of extra bases on what would've been a third hit back in the third inning.

Pitching against this same Buffalo squad for the second time in six days, Pawtucket starter Josh D. Smith tossed five innings of two-run ball in which he fanned five. Over his last five outings, Smith has allowed just four runs in 21.1 innings (1.69 ERA) with 22 strikeouts. Right-hander Josh A. Smith (W, 1-2), who combined on a three-hitter with the other Josh Smith on Wednesday, followed with two shutout innings of one-hit work. Fellow righty Ty Buttrey worked out of a jam in a scoreless eighth, and closer Ryan Brasier (S, 11) stamped the victory with a 1-2-3 ninth. Brasier hasn't allowed an earned run since May 12.

Buffalo starter Nick Tepesch, gave up one run in six innings. After allowing a single, double and sacrifice fly to begin the ballgame, Tepesch limited the PawSox to just one hit - a one-out Castillo single in the fifth - over his next five-plus innings. Reliever Luis Santos (L, 2-2) ceded two runs in two stanzas.

Pawtucket grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Lind pulled a sacrifice fly down the right-field line to plate Castillo, who led off the inning with a single.

The Bisons sent eight to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning, and No. 9 hitter Roemon Fields delivered a two-run triple into the right-field corner to vault Buffalo in front, 2-1.

Lind teed off on his homer in the road half of the eighth, and Pawtucket escaped a jam in the bottom half. With runners at first and second and one out, Buttrey and catcher Dan Butler combined on a strike-him-out-throw-him-out double play to escape the jam.

The PawSox continue their four-game series with Buffalo on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Pawtucket right-hander Justin Haley (4-6, 3.06) is scheduled to oppose Bisons righty Sean Reid-Foley (2-2, 5.46). Radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 6:35 p.m.

The PawSox then return to McCoy Stadium on July 2-3 (Monday-Tuesday) for the start of a holiday home-and-home series against the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins). Good seats are available, and fans can visit the McCoy Stadium box office, which is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m., and during all home games.
