DURHAM, NC - The Durham Bulls dropped the opener of a four-game series 2-1 against the Charlotte Knights, after pulling even in the seventh inning at the DBAP on Monday evening.

The Knights took a 1-0 lead in the third inning following a leadoff walk by Mason Robbins, a double to left by Casey Gillaspie, and a walk to Dustin Garneau to load the bases for Alex Presley. Presley struck out swinging at a wild pitch and Robbins scored putting Charlotte ahead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Jason Coats launched a 2-2 delivery over the Snorting Bull, tying the score 1-1.

Charlotte answered back with a long-ball of its own in the visitor's eighth. Jose Rondon deposited the first pitch he saw over the Blue Monster to put the Knights back in front 2-1.

The Bulls threatened in the eighth and ninth leaving runners on base, but could not climb out of a one-run deficit. In all they left eight runners on base and went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position.

Kean Wong went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, matching a career-high from June 5-18, 2015 with the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

Justin Williams went 2-for-4, and Coats' only hit was his ninth homer of the year. The Bulls out-hit the Knights 7 to 6.

Knights' starter Michael Kopech tossed 6.0 scoreless innings, allowing four hits with nine strikeouts earning a no-decision.

Hunter Wood (L, 2-2) surrendered the homer by Rondon and was saddled with the loss for the second time this season.

The Bulls (41-33) host the Knights (34-41) for game two of this four-game series Tuesday evening at the DBAP. Forrest Snow (4-4, 3.62) is scheduled to start for the Bulls against Carson Fulmer (3-3, 3.67) for the visitors. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
