Louisville Bats News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Bats will look to extend their season-best 8-game winning streak tonight against the Buffalo Bisons, coming off a doubleheader sweep on Tuesday. Left-hander Justin Nicolino is set to pitch for Louisville tonight as the Bats look to win their third consecutive series.

AGAINST BUFFALO: Louisville and Buffalo meet for their first and only series of 2018. The clubs were scheduled to meet back in mid-April at Buffalo, but all 3 games were either postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather. The Bisons were the final team that Louisville had yet to face in 2018. Last season, Buffalo took the season series by a 4-3 advantage, taking three of four from LOU at LSF, with the Bats taking two of three at Buffalo.

EIGHT FEELS GREAT: The Bats have won 8 straight games for the first time since winning 9 straight games from June 18-26, 2012. During that streak, Louisville won 9 straight vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (6/18-6/21), at Pawtucket (6/22-6/25) and at Buffalo (6/26).

DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP: Louisville won both games of Tuesday's doubleheader, by 3-0 and 4-3 scores, respectively. It was the Bats' first doubleheader sweep since September 3 last season, winning both games at Columbus. It was LOU's first doubleheader where it acted as the home team for one game and the road team for the subsequent game since August 15 last season, sweeping the Pawtucket Red Sox.

WINNING ON THE ROAD, EVEN AT HOME!: The Bats have won 7 straight road games (including last night's "road" game at LSF in Game 2 of the doubleheader) and have won 10 of their last 12 games road games since June 30. Before the active streak, LOU last won 7+ consecutive road games in 2016, winning 9 straight road games at Columbus (4/13 DH), Norfolk (4/24-4/26), Durham (4/27-4/29) and Indianapolis (5/6).

THREE STRAIGHT SERIES WINS?: With a win tonight or Thursday, the Bats would have 3+ straight series wins for the first time since they won 4 consecutive series in April-May 2016. Over that stretch, the Bats swept a 3-game series at Norfolk (4/24-4/26), won 4 of 5 games against Durham (4/27-5/1), won 2 of 3 vs. Norfolk and 2 of 3 at Indianapolis.

COMPLETE GAME SHUTOUT: Right-hander Robert Stephenson tossed a 7-inning complete game shutout of the Buffalo Bisons last night in game one of the doubleheader, the first 7-inning CG shutout by a Bats pitcher since Homer Bailey did it May 2, 2009 in game 2 of a doubleheader, also against Buffalo.

GOOSE EGGS STARTED HATCHING: Louisville has won 3 shutout ballgames in its last 7 games, after winning just one shutout game during the entire first half of the season. LOU has still played in the fewest shutout games in the International League this season, owning a 4-2 record in 6 games where one club fails to score.

TRANSACTIONS: Today the Cincinnati Reds placed outfielder Scott Schebler on Major League rehab assignment. Schebler joins Louisville for his second stint this season, previously going 0-for-3 with 3 strikeouts in a rehab game on April 15 at Lehigh Valley. The Bats also added infielder Taylor Sparks to their roster today, who is batting .246 with 10 home runs and 38 RBI in 90 games for Class AA Pensacola this year.
