From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Left-hander Stephen Gonsalves mastered the Indians with seven scoreless innings in a 2-0 shutout for Rochester last night, its ninth of the season. The shutout loss was Indy's seventh in 2018. Jason Martin had two of Indy's seven hits overall. The Tribe mustered just five knocks off Gonsalves, much like his other IL opponents over the last five weeks. The 24-year-old's seven shutout innings marked a seventh consecutive start with either one or zero runs allowed, lasting at least 5.0 frames in each of those outings. It was his eighth start in 15 for Rochester this season where he lasted a minimum of 5.0 innings and allowed no runs. Since June 16 (seven starts), he's gone 3-0 with a 0.45 ERA (2 ER/40.1 IP). Brandon Waddell posted another quality start at home (6.0ip, 6h, 1r/er, 3bb, 3k) but suffered the loss.

UP GOES FRAZIER: Infielder/outfielder Adam Frazier was recalled by Pittsburgh today, marking his third stint with the Pirates this season (also: 3/30-6/10, 6/20-23). Right-handed pitcher Casey Sadler, who had his contract selected on Monday, was optioned in a corresponding move. Frazier's promotion was influenced by a hamstring injury sustained by Pirates outfielder Corey Dickerson in their 9-4 win over Cleveland last night. Frazier, 26, has hit .223 (27-for-121) with two triples, five doubles and 18 RBI in 32 games for the Tribe this season. He had reached base safely in eight straight games, batting .290 (9-for-31) during that stretch. He had recently recorded at least one RBI in a career-high six consecutive games, as well (7/16-21).

MOROFF RETURNS: Infielder Max Moroff was optioned by the Pirates on Monday and officially joined Indy's roster today, both batting and playing second. Moroff, 25, hit .136 (3-for-22) with one homer, three RBI, four runs scored and a 6:5 walk-to-strikeout ratio during his most recent 10-game stint with Pittsburgh. The switch-hitting Winter Park, Fla. native was red-hot for the Indians prior to his last big-league promotion; he hit .366 (15-for-41) with two home runs, four doubles, eight RBI, six walks and a 1.038 OPS in 12 games for Indy from June 13-27.

KRAMER STREAKING: Kevin Kramer has hit safely in five straight games, batting .545 (12-for-22) during the stretch. He leads the team with 32 multi-hit games this season, 21 of which have occurred on the road. On Indy's most recent seven-game road trip, he hit .577 (15-for-26) with three doubles, three RBI, four runs scored and three stolen bases. Kramer has hit safely in 12 of his last 14 road starts, batting .481 (25-for-52) with six doubles, one triple and six RBI in those games combined. For the season, his home/road splits are drastic; his triple-slash line in 47 road games is .352/.414/.568 compared to .242/.292/.400 in 45 games at Victory Field.

SINCE JUNE 1: Kevin Kramer is batting .346 (56-for-162) in 45 games since June 1, the third-best clip in the International League since that date. He also ranks second among IL leaders in doubles (16), extra-base hits (24) and total bases (94) and third in hits (56) and OPS (.971) since June 1. He has hit safely in 32 of 45 games since the start of June, 18 of those being multi-hit performances.

HOME/ROAD TRENDS: Jason Martin went 2-for-3 with a triple last night to elevate his home average with Indy to .375 (12-for-32) in nine games. He has hit just .238 (10-for-42) in 11 road games with the Tribe. Martin's home/road splits have alternated drastically over the course of his six-year career. The cumulative home/road breakdowns for each of his six pro seasons are below:

HOME AVERAGE ROAD AVERAGE

2018: .352 (56-for-159) .288 (49-for-170)

2017: .247 (47-for-190) .299 (85-for-284)

2016: .294 (59-for-201) .246 (49-for-199)

2015: .259 (49-for-189) .280 (58-for-207)

2014: .284 (38-for-134) .225 (25-for-111)

2013: .272 (22-for-81) .235 (23-for-98)

Martin is a lifetime .284 hitter (271-for-954) when playing on his home field compared to .270 (289-for-1069) on the road.

WADDELL IN JULY: Brandon Waddell suffered his first loss in four July outings, despite allowing just one run in 6.0 innings last night. He's allowed two runs or less in each of his four starts this month, going 2-1 with a 1.78 ERA (5 ER/25.1 IP) and 21 strikeouts against just eight walks. In his last three home starts, the 24-year-old is 2-1 with a 1.35 ERA (3 ER/20.0 IP).

BY THE NUMBERS - .195: The Indians went 1-for-7 with RISP last night and are batting just .195 (17-for-87) in those situations over their last nine games, going 2-7 during that stretch.
