LANSING, Mich. - The Great Lakes Loons (33-29) pounded out 14 hits and received the benefit of four errors, outslugging the Lansing Lugnuts (23-38), 11-7, before a crowd of 6,312 on Saturday night at Oldsmobile Park.

The Lugnuts finished off their nine-game, eight-day homestand with a record of 3-6. This was Lansing's final home game of the first half, which will conclude with an eight-game road-trip to Dayton and Great Lakes.

Six different players in the Loons lineup collected a pair of base hits in the contest, helping starter JonMichael Redding (8-2) become the second pitcher in the Midwest League to eight victories. Redding allowed five runs, three earned, on five hits over seven innings.

Lugnuts spot-starter Jonas Cuotto (1-4) surrendered six hits and three runs over 3 2/3 innings in suffering the loss.

Reliever Ryan Koch was victimized by three of the Lugnuts' errors during a four-run fifth inning, two committed by second baseman Luis Fernandez on the same play. The miscues followed on the heels of a two-run homer by back-up catcher Esteben Lopez, who was only inserted into the game because of starting catcher Tony Delmonico was injured in a third inning collision at the plate. The big fifth inning broke open a tight game, giving Great Lakes a commanding 7-2 lead.

After Kyle Russell cracked his league-leading 16th homer in the sixth, the resilient Lugnuts rallied back with three runs in the home half, two on Johermyn Chavez's tenth home run of the year, to carve the deficit to 8-4.

However, Jaime Pedroza clocked a two-run homer in the eighth and Great Lakes added a solo tally in the ninth against Lugnuts closer Matt Daly. The runs proved more than enough insurance to stave off a last-ditch Lugnuts rally in the ninth.

On Sunday, Lansing opens up a four-game series at Fifth Third Field with a 4 p.m. affair against Dayton. Right-hander Chad Beck (0-1, 4.58) starts for the Lugnuts opposite right-hander Josh Ravin (2-7, 4.14) of the Dragons.
