Dayton Dragons News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.-Sawyer Carroll collected three hits including two doubles as the Fort Wayne TinCaps defeated the Dayton Dragons 7-2 Saturday night to complete a sweep of a four game series. Fort Wayne (40-22) has won eight straight games overall and all 11 meetings this season with the Dragons (24-38).

The Dragons wrapped up the eight-game road trip with a 2-6 record. The first seven games on the trip were all decided by one run.

The Dragons got on the board first, scoring one run in the top of the first inning when Andrew Means led off the game with a single to center, went to second on a ground out, and scored on Cody Puckett's hit to left to make it 1-0.

Fort Wayne scored three times against Dragons starting pitcher Matt Fairel in the bottom of the second inning to take a 3-1 lead. The runs ended a streak of 19 consecutive scoreless innings for Fairel.

Dayton pulled to within a run in the fifth when Kevyn Feiner reached on an error with one out and scored from first on Means' double off the left field fence to make it 3-2.

But Fort Wayne answered with three runs against Fairel in the bottom of the fifth, getting a solo home run from Daniel Robertson and a two-run single by Allan Dykstra to take a 6-2 lead. They added one more run in the eighth to close out the scoring.

Fairel (4-3) worked four and two-thirds innings, allowing nine hits and six runs with no walks and four strikeouts to suffer the loss. He had not pitched in 10 days after his turn in the starting rotation was skipped over to rest Fairel's arm. He had not allowed a run in any of his three previous starts.

Dayton finished with six hits. Means led the way with a single, double, run scored, and a run batted in.

The Dragons (24-37) return home on Sunday to battle the Lansing Lugnuts (23-38) in a 4:00 p.m. game at Fifth Third Field. Josh Ravin (2-7, 4.14) will start for the Dragons against Chad Beck (0-1, 4.58).
