Great Lakes Loons News Release

Before Tuesday's game between the Great Lakes Loons and the West Michigan Whitecaps, 12 teams of four high school students from the Mid-Michigan area will compete in a science competition for cash prizes. The Science of Baseball competition is presented by Dow Corning.

The students' science projects must feature a scientific aspect of the game of baseball, such as "Why Does a Curveball Curve?" or "What is the Limit to How Far a Homerun Can Travel?" The competition's grand prize winners will be presented with a $1,000 scholarship per student, plus $1,000 will be donated to the students' school. The students, high school principals and science advisors will be guests of the Loons and Dow Corning for the game and will enjoy dinner in the Northern Lights Pavilion.

"We know there are a lot of bright students with great science minds in this region, and we are looking forward to being impressed by their presentations," said Paul Barbeau, Loons President and General Manager. "This is a wonderful competition to benefit local high schools and high school students, and we appreciate the support of Dow Corning for making it possible."

Tickets are available for the Loons' two games Monday and Tuesday against West Michigan, a Tigers' affiliate. You can get yours today by calling 989-837-BALL, by visiting the Loons' ticket office at Dow Diamond, or by logging on to Loons.com.
