Kernels rally in 10th for 7-6 win over Clinton

Mark Trumbo scored the game-winning run on Julio Perez's RBI single in the top of the tenth inning to give the Kernels a 7-6 win over the Clinton LumberKings in front of 759 fans at Alliant Energy Field in Clinton on Sunday.
The win broke the Kernels four game losing streak to the LumberKings and finished their six game road trip at 4-2. The Kernels improved to 18-15 as Clinton fell to 21-14.
Kernels starter Sean O'Sullivan allowed nine hits and three runs over six innings pitched. He struck out seven in a no-decision effort. Warner Madrigal (1-1) gave up three hits, but no runs to pick up the win in relief and Aaron Cook pitched a perfect 10th to pick up his third save.
Matt Sweeney, Mark Trumbo and Julio Perez each had two hits as Trumbo and Sweeney also added a double. P.J. Phillips and Marco Albano had an RBI on the afternoon as the Kernels ended up with 12 hits.
Clinton starter Broc Coffman gave up nine hits and six runs (five earned) over 4.2 IP. Clinton reliever Brennan Garr (0-3) took the loss for the LumberKings.
The series now shifts to Cedar Rapids for two games on Monday and Tuesday as the Kernels open a 10-game, 11-day homestand with a Mix 96.5 FM/WMT AM 600 Belly Buster Monday.
