West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

MIDLAND - Since April 26, the Whitecaps had hit one home run - a span of 17 games - until Louis Ott and Gorkys Hernandez each went deep on Monday night in a 5-4 West Michigan triumph over Great Lakes.

Ott hit a solo shot in the first inning - his first of the season - to end a drought of nine consecutive games without a home run.

The Loons rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI ground out by Preston Mattingly, then an RBI double by Josh Bell.

Brandon Timm had pair of opposite field, RBI singles that each drove in Santo De Leon. One was in the second to tie the game. The other single put the 'Caps in front in the fifth, 3-2.

Following Timm's go-ahead hit, Hernandez hit a two-run homer that pushed the lead to 5-2. It was the first home run this year for the Whitecaps centerfielder.

Lauren Gagnier (2-4) pitched six innings and allowed three runs (2 ER) to earn the win.

Josh Rainwater threw two innings of middle relief. He allowed an eighth inning home run to Eduardo Perez that pulled the Loons to within one, 5-4.

Brett Jensen pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his seventh save.

Short Series: The last game in the brief two game stint in Midland for the Whitecaps is Tuesday night. RHP Josh Wall (1-4, 5.04) will be on the mound for Great Lakes. RHP Angel Castro (3-2, 2.20) is slated to start for West Michigan. The Davenport University Career Startup Show begins at 6:55 p.m. on 1340 AM WBBL and at wbbl.com.
