Loons Bullpen Boosts 13 K's in 3-2 Victory

Midland, MI.- The Great Lakes Loons (41-18) held the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (23-35) to just one hit and no runs from the third inning on, grabbing their second straight one-run victory 3-2 on a cloudy 62-degree Wednesday night at Dow Diamond.

Great Lakes has won 11 games by one run this season, three times in their last six victories.

Four of the game's five runs were scored in the first two innings. Ronan Kopp notched two outs but did not finish the first. A walk and back-to-back singles loaded the bases for Wisconsin. Ben Metzinger reached on a base on balls, to put the Timber Rattlers up 1-0. Kopp did bounce back getting two straight strikeouts. Mitchell Tyranski ended the inning, with a three-pitch punchout.

The Loons took the lead, plating two in the bottom of the first. Chris Alleyne and Alex Freeland singled to put runners on the corners. Luis Diaz skied a ball to center field to score Alleyne. Freeland stole both second base and third base. Ismael Alcantara scooted him home with an infield RBI single.

Wisconsin tied up the score in the next half-inning. With two one-out singles, Matt Wood stepped up and struck an 0-2 into centerfield to tie the game. Tyranski stranded the bases loaded, and the Timber Rattlers would not score again.

Jerming Rosario took over in the third and went a season-high five innings and struck out eight batters. Eight is the most for Rosario in an appearance at both the Low-A and High-A level. Just two baserunners reached on Rosario's watch, one being on an error. The runner tried to steal second base but was thrown out by Frank Rodriguez.

Before leaving after a fifth quality start, Great Lakes reclaimed the lead off Cam Wagoner. Alex Freeland singled in the fifth moved to second before the pitch on a groundout, and then stole third to position himself 90 feet away with two outs. Damon Keith next up blooped a payoff pitch down the right-field line for a go-ahead double.

Jack Dreyer delivered two strikeouts in a 1-2-3 inning and has not allowed a run in 10.2 innings. Benony Robles, in the ninth closed the door. After the first Wisconsin hit since the second, a two-out single, Robles forced a flyout to centerfield to secure the win.

Great Lakes tomorrow night Friday, June 16th transform into the Los Pepinillos Picantes del Norte. It is the first Copa de la Diversión Night of 2023 presented by MLive Media Group. The first pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
