West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

EASTLAKE, OH - The West Michigan Whitecaps collected one of their most lopsided shutouts in the 30 years of their franchise in an 11-0 victory over the Lake County Captains on Thursday night at Classic Park.

The win becomes the fourth time in Whitecaps history that the club has posted an 11-0 shutout -- the fourth most lopsided shutout in team history, tying an 11-0 blanking of the Bowling Green Hot Rods on May 14, 2015.

The scheduled second game of Thursday's doubleheader resulted in their second postponement in as many days, as rain and inclement weather forced the intended twin bill to be slated for Saturday beginning at 4:30 pm.

The 'Caps controlled the only game they played from start to finish, dominating the seven-inning contest. The first inning saw Roberto Campos deliver a two-run single before West Michigan took advantage of five consecutive walks from Captains starting pitcher Aaron Davenport, including bases-loaded free passes to Danny Serretti and Brady Allen to extend the lead to 5-0. An inning later, Allen collected two more RBI with a two-run single, giving him a three-RBI game of his own and giving the 'Caps a 7-0 lead. The next two innings saw West Michigan score two runs apiece on two-run homers from Izaac Pacheco, his sixth, and Jace Jung, his tenth of the season, to conclude the scoring.

On the mound, Detroit Tigers No. 17 Prospect Troy Melton (1-0) enjoyed his best start as a Whitecap, tossing five scoreless innings while striking out seven to collect his first victory at the High-A level. Relievers Dario Gardea and Erick Pinales each tossed a scoreless inning in relief to finish the abbreviated ballgame. The Whitecaps improve to 31-27, while the Captains fall to 26-32. Davenport (0-5) takes his fifth loss of the season after giving up six runs while walking six without a strikeout. Allen, Campos, Jung, and Pacheco all enjoyed a multi-RBI performance in the victory.
