Great Lakes Loons News Release

The Great Lakes Loons showed a flare for the dramatic in their 6-5 win over Wisconsin Friday night. Loons' center fielder Bridger Hunt atoned for an earlier miscue in the field with a game-tying RBI single in the ninth inning, then scored the winning run following a throwing error by the third baseman Alex Liddi. The Loons salvage a split of their four-game series with the Timber Rattlers in front of a sold-out crowd of 5,441 at Dow Diamond.

With the Loons trailing by a run in the bottom half of the ninth inning, Scott Van Slyke led off the inning with a four-pitch walk. Rollie Gibson relieved Ron Harmon, and Justin Fuller laid down a sacrifice bunt sending Van Slyke to second. Hunt followed with a single to left scoring Van Slyke. With the count 1-2 to Adolfo Gonzalez, Hunt stole second base. On the next pitch, Gonzalez hit a grounder between third and short that Liddi fielded and threw low to first. Hunt hustled around third and scored on the play all the way from second base.

Earlier in the game, Hunt misjudged a fly ball to center that went for a triple off the bat of Alex Meneses.

The in-game fireworks were followed by a post-game fireworks show, powered by Dow Corning.

Reliever Miguel Ramirez (2-0) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless ninth. Timber Rattlers reliever Rollie Gibson got the Loss, giving up both runs in the ninth. His record falls to 0-2.

There were seven errors committed between these two teams, the last two teams in the Midwest League in team defense. Of the six runs scored tonight by the Loons, only one of them was earned.

The Loons (14-20) will take on the Detroit Tigers' Low-A farm team, the West Michigan Whitecaps Saturday night. Left-hander Cody White gets the call for the Loons going up against Christopher Cody for West Michigan. Game time is set for 6:35pm and will be broadcast in Mid-Michigan on Wheelz 101 (100.9-FM).
