Long Island Falls Short against Lakeland at Home

LONG ISLAND - The Long Island Nets (25-21), the NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, fell 106-100 to the Lakeland Magic (24-22) on Friday night at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

Nets forward Milton Doyle shot .500 (10-of-20) from the field, .778 (7-of-9) from 3-point range and 1.000 (2-of-2) from the free-throw line for a game-high 29 points with six rebounds in 37 minutes. Guard Shannon Scott added 22 points (10-of-15 FG, 2-of-3 3FG), 10 rebounds, five assists and four steals in 36 minutes for his first double-double of the season. Guard Jeremy Senglin also scored in double figures for Long Island with 10 points, two rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes.

For the Magic, center Byron Mullens tallied a team-high 27 points with 15 rebounds, three assists and three blocks for a double-double in 34 minutes, while guard Troy Caupain contributed 23 points, six rebounds and six assists in 36 minutes. Lakeland forward Jamel Artis (17 points) and guard Alan Anderson (16 points) also scored in double figures.

Long Island and Lakeland played a fairly even game, with the score tied up at 56-56 at halftime after the Nets trailed by three following the first quarter. The score swapped after the third quarter when the Magic trailed by just three points. The Nets were down by one basket with under a minute to play, but were held to 14 points in the fourth quarter to fall by six.

The Nets play their next game at home against the Greensboro Swarm on Sunday, March 18, at 3 p.m. ET, while the Magic visit the Maine Red Claws in their next contest, also on Sunday, March 18, at 1 p.m. ET.
