Winston-Salem Dash News Release
Winston-Salem, NC - Winston-Salem hit four home runs, including two by Seth Loman, on their way to a 13-3 victory over Lynchburg in the series finale on Sunday evening at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Loman contributed two homers and a season-high five RBI while Salvador Sanchez and Brent Morel smacked round-trippers with a man aboard as the Dash avoided being swept at home for the first time this season.
Lynchburg, who scored in the first inning in all three games, used a Kris Watts RBI single to grab an early 1-0 lead off Dash starting pitcher Jacob Rasner. Winston-Salem manufactured a run in the second inning that knotted the game at one. Center fielder Salvador Sanchez reached on an infield single and stole second base. After a ground out moved him to third, Sanchez scored on Kyle Shelton's two-out single.
The Dash broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the third inning off Jeff Locke. Left fielder Tyler Kuhn and shortstop Greg Paiml, who both tallied three hits, began the frame with back-to-back singles. A double-steal moved the runners to second. First baseman Jimmy Gallagher and third baseman Brent Morel each delivered back-to-back RBI put outs to put the Dash in front 3-1. Designated hitter Seth Loman walked and Sanchez blasted a two-run home run to give Winston-Salem a 5-1 lead.
The Hillcats put a run on the board in the top of the fifth, but the Dash answered right back in the bottom of the inning when Morel lined a two-run home run off Paul Mildren to extend Winston-Salem advantage to 7-2. Again, Lynchburg tacked on a run in the top of the seventh only to have the Dash respond in the bottom half of the inning when Loman launched a two-run shot off Ramon Aguero.
Rasner tossed five innings and held the Hillcats to two runs on five hits. He walked four and struck out four to keep his record perfect at 3-0. Locke (2-7) only lasted three innings and surrendered five runs on six hits to suffer the loss.
The Dash will enjoy a day off on Monday before meeting the Salem Red Sox for a three-game series at Lewis-Gale Field on Tuesday night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
The Dash has introduced a new three-game champion plan. This is the only way to get the best seats for the playoffs before they go on sale to the general public. The three-game champion plan includes our three remaining fireworks games on July 24th, August 7th and September 3rd. Each plan comes with a FREE souvenir Dash hat. Purchase your three-game plan by July 17th and receive a FREE playoff ticket to the first playoff game in Dash history on September 9th.
