KTribe Takes Game, Series From Potomac

Kinston gave Potomac a taste of their own medicine, using two home runs to help beat the Nationals 5-3 Sunday afternoon at Historic Grainger Stadium. With the win Kinston took two of three games from Potomac, as the K-Tribe has now won two of their last three series.

Kinston started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Cord Phelps drove home Adam Davis with an RBI double. The K-Tribe extended the lead with a solo home run from Ole Sheldon in the bottom of the third inning. It was Sheldon's second long ball of the season. After an RBI single by Richard Martinez made the score 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Lucas Montero drove in the winning runs with a two-run home run later in the inning. It was Montero's third home run of the season.

The K-Tribe got a great starting pitching performance from Mike McGuire. McGuire went four innings, giving up two hits and one earned run. Bryce Stowell picked up the win in relief, giving up one run on two hits in 3 1/3 innings. Stowell walked five and struck out three. David Roberts got his first save of the season, giving up one earned run in 1 2/3 innings.

Every K-Tribe starter reached base safely, Martinez went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Ole Sheldon was 2-2 with run and RBI on his solo home run, he walked twice and reached base in all four plate appearances. The series win was Kinston's first at home since May 8th - 10th.

The K-Tribe hits the road for a seven game trip starting at Frederick on Monday night. Game time 7pm, Russell Young will take the hill for the K-Tribe. Kinston returns home for a six game homestand Tuesday, July 21st through Sunday, July 22nd.
