Long Ball Proves Costly for Sea Dogs in 6-5 Loss to Senators

HARRISBURG, PA - The Portland Sea Dogs (16-10) fell to the Harrisburg Senators (8-17), 6-5 on Wednesday night at FNB Field. The Senators led 5-0 after the second inning, and then the Sea Dogs plated four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Each scored one more run before the ninth inning, but Portland left the tying run on base in the top of the ninth inning and dropped the second game of the series to Harrisburg.

Harrisburg starting pitcher Mario Sanchez (1-3) was given the win tossing 5.2 innings allowing four runs on six hits while walking two and striking out four. Portland's AJ Politi (1-4) was given the loss pitching 5.0 innings allowing five runs on five hits while striking out seven. He did not allow a walk.

Cole Freeman hit a lead-off home run in the first inning and the Senators led, 1-0.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning, Rhett Wiseman belted a grand slam and Harrisburg extended their lead, 5-0.

The Sea Dogs plated their first runs in the top of the fifth inning. Jhonny Pereda led off with a double down the left field line then moved to third on a single by Tanner Nishioka. Grant Williams then popped up a sacrifice fly to left field and Portland was on the board, 5-1. Then with two-men on, Pedro Castellanos smashed a three-run homer to left field and the Sea Dogs continued to trail 5-4.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Drew Mendoza drilled a one-out home run to right field and extended Harrisburg's lead, 6-4.

The Sea Dogs answered in the top of the seventh inning. Castellanos reached on his second hit of the game, a single to left field. Joey Meneses then drove an RBI triple to left centerfield and Portland continued to trail 6-5.

The Sea Dogs and Senators meet for game three tomorrow, June 3 at 6:30pm. Portland will send RHP Frank German (0-3, 8.47 ERA) to the mound while Harrisburg will have RHP Ryan Tapani (0-0, 4.35 ERA) on the bump.
