Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Kansas City Royals, have announced that outfielder Alex Llanos has been placed on the disabled list with a left shoulder injury. Taking Llanos ¬â¢ place on the active roster is outfielder Jovan Pickett, who joins the club from the Burlington Royals of the Appalachian League (Rookie). Pickett is in the starting lineup for today ¬â¢s series finale at Elfstrom Stadium against the Great Lakes Loons. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
Pickett (Non-drafted free agent, 2009) is a speedy corner outfielder who stole 23 bases for Burlington (NC) in 2009, second-most in the Appalachian League that season. Pickett played in just nine games last season, exclusively at Idaho Falls (Rookie-Advanced) where he batted .387. The Birmingham, AL native was batting .304 for Burlington in 22 games this summer before this morning ¬â¢s transaction.
Llanos (6th round, 2008) suffered a shoulder injury while attempting to make a diving catch during the game on July 13. Part of the Opening Day roster in April, Llanos ¬â¢ 307 at-bats are a team-high and five of his last eight games were multi-hit efforts.
