Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Quad Cities River Bandits were held hitless Monday until Victor Sanchez (1-for-3) hit a single with one out in the fifth inning. Quad Cities lost 6-0 to the Bowling Green Hot Rods in front of 1,948 fans on a steamy Monday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park, The Bandits were held scoreless for the first time since a June 9 shutout to the Lansing Lugnuts.
Bowling Green starter C.J. Riefenhauser (6-5) pitched five one-hit innings while striking out five batters to pick up his sixth victory of the season.
Bandit starter Anthony Ferrara (8-5) went six innings allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out three. Ferrara walked three in his first loss this month. Dean Kiekhefer relieved Ferrara in the seventh inning and pitched two innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out one. Aiden Lucas pitched the ninth for the Bandits and allowed two runs on three hits.
Offensively, the Bandits were held to just four hits in the game. Kolten Wong was 2-for-4 with a double, the only Bandit extra-base hit of the game. Luis Mateo (1-for-3) singled in the ninth inning and Sanchez had the only other hit in the game, a single to break up Reifenhauser's no-hit bid.
Oscar Taveras came into Monday's contest with a 12-game hitting streak, but it was snapped with his 0-for-4 performance at the plate.
The Bandits are off Tuesday before beginning the series with the Lake County Captains on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CST at Classic Field in East Lake, Ohio.
