Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

EL PASO, TX - The Lincoln Saltdogs steamrolled El Paso on Wednesday, cruising to an 18-4 win at Cohen Stadium. Lincoln improves to 15-10 on the second half of the season.

Each team scored a pair of runs in the second, but the Saltdogs broke the game open with six runs in the third inning, aided by three El Paso errors. Phil Hawke hit an RBI single to start the scoring, and two batters later, Rafael Alvarez added an RBI hit of his own. Gavin Dickey drove in the third run of the inning with another single, and Shawn McGill scored the fourth run on an error. Brandon Jones capped scoring with a two-run single, as Lincoln sent 11 men to the plate.

The Saltdogs tacked on a run in the fourth on an Alvarez RBI double, and then exploded for seven runs in the fifth. Lincoln greeted El Paso starter Clegg Snipes (2-6) with four straight hits to open the inning, including RBI singles for Albenis Machado and Hawke, to chase the righty from the game. McGill, Dickey, Jones and Shea McFeely also had RBI in the fifth, as the Dogs sent 11 men to the plate for the second time in the game. McGill finally ended the scoring for the Saltdogs with a two-run double in the sixth.

The offensive explosion made an easy winner out of Lincoln starter Tim Brown (4-1), who allowed four runs, three earned, over seven innings of work. Brown walked one and struck out three, and the rookie improved to 3-0 since entering the Saltdogs rotation. Lefties Adam Daniels and Forrest Cory each pitched a scoreless inning to finish off the win.

McGill, who also started the Lincoln scoring with a two-run home run in the second inning, ended the night 4-for-6 with two runs scored and five RBI. Hawke and Jones also went 4-for-6, while Alvarez had three hits and three runs scored.

Lincoln will travel home on Thursday, and will host Sioux Falls at Haymarket Park Friday night at 7:05. Lefty Zac Cline will make the start for Lincoln.
