
Wingnuts beat Saints, 10-7

ST. PAUL, MN- The Wichita Wingnuts beat the St. Paul Saints 10-7 at Midway Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
With the bases loaded and one out in the second, Brenan Herrera singled to left field to give the Wingnuts a 1-0 lead. Josh Horn was next and hit a groundball that was thrown away by third baseman Brent Krause allowing two more runs to score.
After the Saints tied the game on a three-run home run from Anthony Norman in the bottom of the second, the Wingnuts regained the lead for good in the third. Wichita scored three more times, needing only one base hit. Wichita was helped by two bases loaded walks and a sacrifice fly from catcher Michael Sharp.
In the fourth, Kelly Hunt blasted his league leading 16th home run of the season to extend the lead to 7-3. Greg Porter, who extended his hitting streak to 14 in a row with a single in the third, hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the eighth to make it 9-3.
After the Saints scored two in the eighth, Michael Sharp hit an RBI double in the ninth to make it 10-5. St. Paul scored twice more in the bottom of the inning before Diego Soto retired the side to preserve the 10-7 win.
Brad Davis returned to the rotation and earned the win, allowing three runs in five innings. Davis struck out a season-high six batters while walking four and is now 7-5 on the season. Doug Hurn worked two scoreless innings of relief.
