ST. PAUL, MN (August 5, 2009) - A night after coming out on the wrong end of a pitchers' duel, the St. Paul Saints lost a slugfest, 10-7 to the Wichita Wingnuts Wednesday afternoon at Midway Stadium in front of 6,361 fans.

Enjoying a 6-3 lead in the fourth, Wingnuts first baseman Kelly Hunt launched a solo home run over the left field fence, his league leading 16th round tripper of the season. Then in the eighth with the Wingnuts leading 7-3, Greg Porter extended Wichita's lead by belting a two-run bomb, his 14th of the year. It was one of three hits on the day for Porter, who currently leads the American Association in batting average.

The Saints did their best to respond late in the game, scoring two runs in each of the last two innings. St. Paul plated a pair in the eighth on a two-run single by Jacob Butler. Jake finished with three hits in the ballgame.

Needing to mount a big comeback in the ninth, the Saints refused to give up despite trailing 10-5. Wingnuts reliever Diego Soto retired the first two batters of the inning before walking Jason Cooper. Brent Krause and Josh Alley followed with back-to-back run scoring doubles to cut the deficit to 10-7. Soto then struck out Butler to end the threat and preserve the Wichita victory.

The Wingnuts took an early 3-0 lead in the second after collecting three base hits in the inning of Saints starter Tom Buske. The 23-year-old right hander for the Saints would be chased from the ballgame in the third. Buske lasted just 2.1 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits while walking three and striking out one.

Anthony Norman provided the big blow for the Saints when he blasted a three run homer over the right field fence to tie the game at 3-3 in the second. It was Norman's first home run as a member of the Saints.

Wingnuts starter Brad Davis pitched well enough and earned the win, his seventh of the season. Davis tossed 5.0 innings, yielding three runs on three hits while walking four and striking out six.
