Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

The Lincoln Saltdogs evened their second half record at 1-1 with a 9-3 win over the Gary Railcats at Haymarket Park Tuesday night.

Lincoln took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning when an error scored Ian Church, who had tripled with one out. The Saltdogs added two more runs in the 4th, using just a single and two walks to make the score 3-0.

Gary responded with a run in the 5th inning, when a 2-out RBI double from Matt Howe scored Rich Rodrigues. Lincoln used some 2-out magic of their own in the bottom of the 5th to retake a three-run lead. Josh Patton doubled, then scored on a Kevin Sullivan single to make the score 4-1.

Gary got a run in the 6th inning (Kenny White double followed by a Anthony Iapoce single), but Lincoln put the game away by scoring a combined 5 runs between the 7th and 8th innings. Charles Peterson hit a 2-run home run in the 7th, while Clemente Bonilla added a solo shot in the 8th to account for much of the damage.

The Saltdogs dropped Railcats starting pitcher Brandon Sloan to 0-6 on the season, and now 0-4 against the Saltdogs. He allowed 4 runs, 3 of them earned, on 4 hits and 5 walks over 6 innings. Lincoln's Mike Zipser pitched extremely well to earn the victory. He allowed just 2 runs on 4 hits and 1 walk over 7 innings, while striking out 6. He improves to 5-4 on the year.

Both clubs see their records even at 1-1 in the second half. Lincoln improves to 30-20 overall, while Gary falls to 14-36 overall.
