Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Lincoln, NEâ Tony O'Donnell pitched a four-hitter, retiring the final 13 batters he faced, to lead the Gary SouthShore RailCats to a 4-1 win over the Lincoln Satldogs at Haymarket Park.
O'Donnell (3-4) threw his second career complete game, tossing 102 pitches â 64 for strikes â and walking just one batter. The left-hander held the Saltdogs, who rank second in the Northern League in team batting average (.298), to just four hits by establishing his fastball for strikes throughout the game.
The complete game is the first pitched by a RailCats starter this season. O'Donnell won for the first time since June 17.
The RailCats offense paved the way for O'Donnell with two-first inning runs. Anthony Iapoce walked and Curt Lee singled to set the table for Billy Brown, who delivered an RBI-single to put the RailCats ahead. Mike Stoner then scored Lee with a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0.
The Saltdogs scored their lone run off O'Donnell in third inning on Jorge Moreno's bunt single, a wild pitch, and an RBI-single by former RailCats 2B Clemente Bonilla.
The RailCats answered with runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Juan Camacho's two-out RBI-single in the 4th put the RailCats up 3-1, and the RailCats added an unearned run in the fifth inning.
Alex Carbajal (0-1), making just his third career start, took the loss for Lincoln, yielding three runs on five hits and three walks in four innings. Reliever Travis Teeter pitched the final five innings for Lincoln, retiring 13 of the final 14 batters he faced.
The RailCats (2-1 2nd half, 15-36 overall) continue their seven-game road trip Thursday night in Lincoln, with the finale of a four-game series against the Saltdogs (1-2 2nd half, 30-21 overall). The game will be broadcast on the RailCats Radio Network, including WEFM 95.9, WJOB 1230 AM, and www.sportsjuice.com, beginning at 6:45 p.m.
The RailCats return to U. S. Steel Yard on Thursday, July 22, to begin an eight-game homestand.
