Sioux Falls Canaries News Release
Sioux Falls, SDâ After trading big innings early on with Kansas City, the Sioux Falls Canaries used more of that magic from last night to come back from a 10-9 deficit in the 10th inning to capture the 11-10 victory Tuesday night at the Birdcage. Darin Kinsolving had the key hit for the Canaries in the 10th, chopping a two-run bases loaded single over the drawn in infield to score Juan Thomas and Glenn Davis to win the game.
Playing without key veterans Marc Mirizzi and Ron Wright, the bats came alive for Sioux Falls to pound out 11 runs on 18 hits. Sluggers Juan Thomas and Carlos Pagan led the attack for the Birds, as they tried to outdue each other with tape-measure homeruns in the 1st and 6th innings. Thomas homered over the right-center field scoreboard in the third, and Pagan blasted a two-run shot off of the Back Porch to plate Davis and give the Canaries an early 8-6 lead. Contributing to the offensive onslaught were infielders Scott Beshears and Joe Rhomberg who both collected a pair of hits. Clark Parker enjoyed his second 3-hit game of the season while knocking in two runs.
The real heroics came in the bottom of the 10th as the Birds got to closer David Johnson for the second straight night. Thomas led off the 10th with a bloop single to center, and then Glenn Davis, last night's hero ripped a double to left field. Carlos Pagan was intentionally walked to load the bases with no outs, and Darin Kinsolving bounced the 1-0 pitch over the infield to win the game. Johnson got the loss for the second straight night, falling to 0-5 on the season.
Sioux Falls used four pitchers to combat the Steaks, including Derek Lopez, who got the win to improve to 2-5 on the season.
The Canaries and T-Bones will play the series finale at the Birdcage Wednesday afternoon starting at noon. The game marks Part II of "Afternoon in the Park." It will also be "Weenie Wednesday", where all hotdogs are just $1. The Canaries then travel to Fargo for a 3 game series with the RedHawks before the All-Star Break in Joliet, IL.
