Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - Ryan Donato scored his fifth goal of the year and Jimmy Schuldt extended his point streak to five games however it was the visiting Lincoln Stars who came away with a 2-1 shootout victory on Saturday night in front of Omaha's 14th sellout of the year as 3,545 packed Ralston Arena.
Ryan Donato put the Lancers up 1-0 over the visiting Stars late in the opening period. Donato took the puck inside the right wing circle and moved his way to the front of the net. As defenders converged Donato slipped the puck by Lincoln goaltender Peyton Jones at 15:23 of period one. The goal was Donato's fifth on the season and assisted by Jimmy Schuldt and Shane Gersich. Schuldt's assist increased his point streak to nine games.
After no scoring in the second period an unlikely source tied the game for Lincoln in the third period. The penalty minute leader for the Stars, Dylan Woolf went hard to the net after an original save by Omaha's goaltender Zach Driscoll. The rebound dropped by Driscoll and Woolf got the final touch as he tapped in his second of the season to even the score 1-1 at 8:11 of the final period. Wyatt Kalynuk and Sean MacTavish were credited with the assists.
There was no scoring the rest of the period or in overtime so the two rivals went to a shootout in the final regular season game of the year. In the shootout, Dominick Sacco and Michael Gillespie both scored and Shane Gersich was denied in the second round as Lincoln came away with the extra point and the 2-1 victory.
Zach Driscoll earned first star of the game stopping 26 of 27 shots in the loss.
