Molino and Iacopelli Set Personal Marks, Lumberjacks Split Weekend in Madison

MADISON, Wisconsin (April 11th) - The Muskegon Lumberjacks sought after a road weekend sweep of the expansion Madison Capitols end the 2014-15 regular season before the Clark Cup Playoffs begin in a few days. Ultimately, the Capitols had other plans in store and ended up coming away victorious by a 4-1 final at the Alliant Energy Center. In regards to the Lumberjacks, two players in Griffen Molino and Matheson Iacopelli made personal accomplishments on the team's lone goal of the night as Molino set a new team single season points record with 64, while Iacopelli recorded his 100th career USHL point, all of which came as a Lumberjack.

The first period saw the Capitols (24-25-11, 59 points) snatch the game's first goal of the night at the 6:02 mark to take an early 1-0 lead that held going into the first intermission as Luke McElhenie chipped a backhand in the slow past Michael Latorella (9-7-0) for his seventh of the season that was helped Mitch and Cole Hults.

Madison outshot Muskegon during the first 20 minutes of regulation by a 16-6 margin while gaining the period's only power play opportunity but did not capitalize on the chance.

The host Capitols continued to build on their lead extending it to 3-0 by the 11:16 mark of the second period with a pair of tallies from Charlie Gerard at the 7:50 and 11:16 marks, respectively, to get the Minnesota State commit up to 17 goals on the season. Haralds Egle and Tommy Muck aided on the first Charlie Gerard marker, while Guillaume Leclerc assisted on the second goal.

Just 3:20 later, the Lumberjacks (35-21-4, 74 points) cracked the scoreboard for the first and only time on the night at the 14:36 mark cutting the deficit to 3-1 as a breakaway opportunity by Iacopelli led to a rebound marker from Molino backhanding his 18th of the season top shelf and past Garrett Metcalf (10-12-4). Corey Schueneman received the secondary helper on the even strength tally.

The second period featured no penalties assessed on either side with the Lumberjacks outshooting the Capitols during the middle stanza by a 15-7 spread. Madison held on to the shot advantage overall by a narrow 23-21 margin.

Madison added one more in the third period to cap off the three-goal home victory with a rebound goal from Robby Fosdick at the 9:28 mark for his first career USHL goal that was assisted by Hunter Luhmann and Miguel Fidler.

Muskegon outshot Madison during the final period of regulation, 15-6, and claimed the shots on goal battle overall, 36-29.

Garrett Metcalf reached double digits in wins on the season with a 35-save night for the Capitols, while Michael Latorella picked up the road loss after stopping 25 of 29 shots faced. Charlie Gerard led all scorers on both sides with a pair of goals. Both teams finished 0-for-1 on the power play. Griffen Molino, who surpassed Matheson Iacopelli's team record of 63 points amassed during the 2013-14 campaign, notched his 103rd career USHL point. Corey Schueneman picked up his 80th career point in the league with an assist. Muskegon finishes the six-game regular season series with a 3-2-1 record against Madison that includes a 1-1-1 mark at the Alliant Energy Center.

The Lumberjacks begin their quest for a 2015 Clark Cup Championship with Eastern Conference Semifinal action against the Youngstown Phantoms beginning on Wednesday, April 15th at 7:15 pm from the L.C. Walker Arena with Game 1 of the best-of-five series.

Tickets for the 2015 Clark Cup Playoffs are now on sale. Fans that place a $60 deposit on their 2015-16 season ticket by the end of the business day on Tuesday, April 14th receive two tickets to the first round of the playoffs and only pay $40 for the remaining two rounds. For fans that are unable to place a $60 deposit down, they can still purchase playoff ticket packages for $60 that includes all three rounds while being eligible to receive a credit on their season ticket balance for next season on tickets for games not played throughout this year's playoffs.

Individual playoff tickets are also on sale for $14 (Gold S ections), $12 (Crimson Sections), $10 (Black Sections), $7 (Youth ages 3-13), and $10 (Seniors/Military/Students). Pricing remains the same on or before the day of the scheduled game.
