Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs made it two straight over Sioux City on Tuesday, winning 6-1 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln improves to 9-8 on the second half of the season, and stays in first place in the North Division of the American Association.
Saltdogs starter Jim Paduch (5-4) twirled a gem, allowing just one unearned run on four hits over seven innings of work. Paduch walked three and struck out seven, earning his first win since Independence Day. Sioux City's only run came in the top of the fifth, when Derek Schermerhorn stole third and scored on a throwing error.
Lincoln, meanwhile, took the early lead when Phil Hawke cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the first, his tenth of the year. The Saltdogs were held in check until the sixth, when they scored four runs to break the game open. Shawn McGill drove in the first run of the frame with a sacrifice fly, and Steve Alexander followed with an RBI single. Two batters later, Brandon Jones finished off the rally with a two-run homer, his seventh of the season.
Hawke finished the night 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. His home run briefly tied him for the team lead in RBI with 40, but Alexander's RBI in the sixth pushed him back ahead of Hawke by one. On the mound, Daryl Arreola and Matt Petrusek each pitched a scoreless inning, and both hurlers struck out two batters each.
The two teams play game three of their four-game series Wednesday night at 7:05. Righty Jarrett Gardner will make the start for the Saltdogs.
