Fort Worth Cats News Release
Grand Prairie scored five times in the 10th inning as they defeated the Cats 11-6 on Tuesday night at LaGrave Field.
Trailing 6-1 going to the fifth, the AirHogs got a grand slam from Cesar Nicolas, his ninth dinger of the season to narrow the lead to 6-5. They would score again in the sixth on a run-scoring single from Jonathan Dziomba to knot the game 6-6. It was one of four hits for the rookie second baseman in the contest.
The game stayed tied at six until the 10th when Grand Prairie broke it open. An infield single, a hit by pitch and an intentional walk loaded the bases before Cats' reliever Gary Lee uncorked a wild pitch, scoring Dziomba from third for a 7-6 Grand Prairie lead. Javier Brito followed in the 10th with a two-run double. Drew Holder added a two-run single later in the inning for an 11-6 lead.
Pat O'Sullivan's second RBI of the night in the 11th, cut the AirHogs lead to 11-7, but reliever Greg Krause got Ryan Patterson on a comebacker to the mound to end the game with the tying run in the on-deck circle.
Krause (1-0) notched his first victory of the season, allowing a run on two hits in two innings of relief work. Lee took his second extra-inning loss of the series, as he permitted five runs on three hits in the 10th to fall to 0-2 on the year.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Cats erupted for six runs in the second inning. O'Sullivan's RBI triple tied the game 1-1 and then Patterson's single gave the Cats the lead. The next four batters would reach as the Cats scored six runs on six hits in the second. But the Cats would only managed one run on three hits the rest of the way as Grand Prairie scored 10 runs over the final six innings for the victory.
The loss drops the Cats' second-half record to 9-10 and their overall mark now stands at 39-27.
The finale of the four-game series is on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. Jae Jung makes his 13th start of the season for the Cats.
