Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs came up short against St. Paul on Wednesday, losing 7-3 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln drops to 14-10 on the season.
The Saltdogs could not overcome a five-run first inning by the Saints, who saw six of their first seven hitters reach on base hits. Lincoln starter Tim Brown (2-3) only recorded one out before being lifted, allowing four singles and two doubles in the shortest start of his professional career.
Lincoln got an outstanding relief effort from lefty Donald Furrow, who replaced Brown and tossed 6.1 scoreless innings. Furrow allowed just two hits and a walk while striking out six, giving his team a chance to get back into the game. The Saltdogs plated a pair of unearned runs in the fifth, as Juan Richardson and Shawn McGill scored on a pair of St. Paul errors, but Lincoln managed only five hits over eight innings against Saints starter Jacob Schmidt (3-2). The 'Dogs got a solo home run from Gavin Dickey in the eighth inning to make it 5-3, but St. Paul scored a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth.
Richardson ended the night 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. McGill also had a multi-hit night for Lincoln, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
The two teams play the finale of their three-game series Wednesday night at 7:05. Right-hander Billy Weitzman will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
