Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS - The Wichita Wingnuts lost 2-1 to the Sioux Falls Pheasants in 10 innings at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Wednesday night.

Tied at 1-1 in the top of the 10th inning, Beau Torbert singled home the go-ahead run with two outs on a single to center off of Justin Dowdy.

With Joe Anthonsen on second and two outs in the eighth, Torbert hit a short popfly that fell inside the left field line to tie the game at 1-1. Chris Colton made a spectacular catch against the next hitter, Brandon Sing, to keep the game tied. Sing drove the ball to the fence in center field that Colton caught with a crashing leap at the top of the fence.

The catch came half an inning after Reggie Abercrombie robbed Steve Pearson of a two-run, extra-base hit in the bottom of the seventh.

Nick Singleton fired seven one-hit, shutout innings in a no-decision and did not allow a base hit until Joe Anthonsen's single to right in the top of the sixth with one out.

Singleton pitched out of a jam in the seventh to keep the Wingnuts in front. After walking Beau Torbert and Brandon Sing to lead off the inning, Trevor Lawhorn laid down a sacrifice bunt. The Wingnuts intentionally walked Hunter Jobes to load the bases. Singleton then struck out Gus Milner and Eddy Rodriguez back-to-back to end the inning.

The Wingnuts scored the first run of the game on Mario Delgado's double play ball in the bottom of the fourth that brought in Ryan Patterson.

Ben Moore earned the win, allowing one run in nine innings.

The Wingnuts and Pheasants finish their series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Adam Cowart goes to the mound against left-hander Chris Salberg. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS.
