AirHogs' Paxton Selected by Seattle Mariners

Grand Prairie, TX. Manager Pete Incaviglia and the Grand Prairie AirHogs organization proudly announce that LHP James Paxton has been selected by the Seattle Mariners by in round four of the 2010 First Year Player Draft.

Paxton, a 22-year-old native of Ladner, Bristish Columbia, started in four games for the AirHogs in 2010. He went 1-2 with a 4.08 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings pitched. On May 19, he went six innings versus the Sioux City Explorers, allowing one hit and one run while striking out six batters and earning his first professional victory.

Selected in the First Round of the 2009 MLB Draft (Toronto Blue Jays), Paxton elected to re]enter the 2010 draft and did so while with the AirHogs organization. A standout at the University of Kentucky, in 2009 he went 78.1 innings with 115 strikeouts, good for a rank of third in the NCAA in strikeouts per nine innings (13.22).
