Pawtucket Red Sox News Release

PAWTUCKET, R.I. - Tzu-Wei Lin and Rusney Castillo continued their excellent offensive seasons and combined for five hits, but the Norfolk Tides toppled the Pawtucket Red Sox, 8-3, on Wednesday afternoon at McCoy Stadium.

The PawSox (57-63), playing their third game in a span of 22 hours after Tuesday's doubleheader split, dropped the rubber game to the Tides (63-57), who utilized a four-run second inning.

Lin (3-for-5, 3B, 2 RBI) recorded his 28th multi-hit game with the PawSox and continued a dominant stretch in which he's hit .389 with 20 extra-base hits in his last 38 Triple-A games dating back to May 27th. The 24-year-old from Taiwan upped his team-leading OPS to .889. Castillo, for his part, went 2-for-4 with an RBI and continued to make his case for International League Most Valuable Player honors. The All-Star, who has been dynamite defensively in center field, leads the league in average (.325) and hits (139) and ranks in the top five in doubles (28).

Pawtucket starter William Cuevas allowed four runs on nine hits and four walks in five-plus innings before exiting in the sixth after he was struck on the leg by a one-hop comebacker. Lockdown reliever Matthew Gorst allowed his first earned runs since May 13th.

With family and friends in town for the series, Norfolk leadoff man Mike Yastrzemski, the grandson of "Yaz" and a 2009 Red Sox draftee who elected to play collegiately at Vanderbilt, bashed two home runs - a second-inning grand slam and a ninth-inning two-run shot.

Norfolk starter Luis Ortiz fired five innings of one-run work with five strikeouts and just one walk.

Norfolk loaded the bases in the top of the second inning, and Yastrzemski unloaded with a grand slam to right field to start the scoring.

The PawSox cracked the score column in the bottom of the third inning when Castillo tugged an RBI single into left-center field to make it 4-1.

The Tides then loaded the bases on a pair of bloop singles and a groundball in the seventh, and an RBI groundout and an RBI infield chopper stretched their lead to 6-1.

Pawtucket exacted a measure of revenge in the bottom of the seventh, as it placed runners at second and third after two infield singles and a wild pitch. That set the stage for Lin to deliver a two-run single to center to trim the deficit to 6-3.

But Yastrzemski teed off on his second big fly of the game with two outs in the top of the ninth inning.

Following the series with Norfolk, the PawSox now open up a four-game weekend series against the Durham Bulls - beginning Thursday at 7:05 p.m. Pawtucket left-hander Josh D. Smith (7-5, 3.16) is slated to start. The game will be televised live on NESN, and radio coverage on WHJJ (920 AM and 104.7 FM) and throughout the PawSox Radio Network begins with the pre-game show at 5:45 p.m.

Pawtucket's homestand runs Monday-Sunday (August 13-19), and good tickets are available. Fans can visit the McCoy Stadium box office, which is open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. through 5 p.m., and during all home games. Fans can also call (401) 724-7300 or log on to PawSox.com for tickets.
