
Knights Fall to Bisons 4-2 in Wednesday's Finale

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - The Charlotte Knights brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but fell just short to the Buffalo Bisons by a score of 4-2 on Wednesday night in the finale of their three-game series. Chicago White Sox top prospect Eloy Jiménez popped out to shortstop to end the game.
Charlotte LHP Jordan Guerrero (4-2, 3.12) allowed four runs on six hits over five innings and was charged with the loss. Guerrero allowed all four of his runs over the first two innings and settled down the rest of the way. Buffalo right fielder Billy McKinney homered in the second inning off Guerrero for his 16th long ball of the season. Charlotte relievers Caleb Frare (2.0 IP) and Rob Scahill (2.0 IP) held the Bisons scoreless over the final four innings.
Offensively, the Knights tallied nine hits on the evening. Right fielder Trayce Thompson led the way with three hits, while first baseman Patrick Leonard and third baseman Jake Elmore each had an RBI. Leonard and center fielder Ryan Cordell had two hits apiece. The loss was Charlotte's fourth straight.
BB&T Ballpark welcomed a sell-out crowd of 10,211 fans on Wednesday. It was the ballpark's 19th sell-out crowd of the season.
The Knights will continue their seven-game homestand on Thursday night at BB&T Ballpark and host the Louisville Bats (Triple-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) in the opening game of their four-game series. Pre-game radio coverage of Thursday's 7:04 p.m. game is set for 6:50 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights radio broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action.
