From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indians suffered a 7-3, rain-shortened, five-inning loss in last night's contest against the RailRiders. Scranton/W-B scored all seven of its runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, just before a thunderstorm arrived to PNC Field and ultimately wiped away the remaining four innings of the scheduled nine-inning affair. The two squads were originally slated for a twin bill but postponed one of the games due to inclement weather. Jerrick Suiter belted his second career Triple-A homer in the fourth inning to give Indy a 3-0 lead, but Mike Ford punctuated a seven-run fifth for the home team that led to the final result. Nick Kingham was charged with seven earned runs on 10 hits in 4.0-plus innings of work, suffering his second loss of the season.

WELL, THAT WAS QUICK (SORT OF): Last night's contest was played in just 1 hour and 23 minutes, tied for the shortest game played by the Tribe this season (also: 5/6 vs. GWN, 4-1 loss in 5 innings at Victory Field). The game did have 3 hours and 26 minutes worth of rain delays, however. It was the shortest road game by time for Indy dating back to 1996; the previous low was 1 hour, 25 minutes on 5/24/01 at PAW. It was also just the third five-inning road game played by the Tribe since '96, the others coming on 5/24/01 at PAW and 8/16/98 at DUR.

WORTH THE PRICE OF ADMISSION: Two of baseball's top prospects square off in Game 1 of tonight's twin bill. Mitch Keller (1-2, 6.67), rated as Baseball America's No. 12 overall prospect prior to the season, will face southpaw Justus Sheffield (5-3, 2.16) in the highly-touted matchup. In MLB Pipeline's midseason prospect rankings update, Keller was at No. 14 and Sheffield was at No. 27 overall on the Top 100 list.

LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN, RAILRIDERS: The Indians and RailRiders play their first doubleheader against one another since the 2009 season tonight at PNC Field. The two teams actually played two doubleheaders against one another that season -- the first on May 7 at Victory Field and the second on June 22 at PNC Field. The RailRiders swept the Indians on May 7, 7-2 and 9-3, but the Tribe returned the favor in Moosic, Pa. with 7-1 and 6-3 wins on June 22.
