Toledo, OH - The Syracuse Chiefs erupted for 15 hits en route to a 7-1 victory over the Toledo Mud Hens on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field. Andrew Stevenson had four hits and four RBIs while extending his hitting streak to six games, and Bengie Gonzalez also had four hits with two RBIs for Syracuse. The Chiefs won the final two games of the three-game series against the Mud Hens and have now won five of their last six series.

Syracuse (53-69) jumped out to a lead in the top of the fourth inning off Toledo relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar. Yadiel Hernandez led off with a single. Two batters later, Chris Dominguez reached on a two-base fielding error by Mud Hens third baseman Harold Castro, putting runners at second and third base. Gonzalez followed with a double, scoring both Falu and Dominguez to give the Chiefs a 2-0 edge. Stevenson then homered over the right-field wall for a two-run home run that put Syracuse in front 4-0.

Toledo (61-60) responded in the bottom of the fourth. Chad Huffman walked and Christin Stewart singled to put runners at first and third to start the frame. Dawel Lugo followed with a singled to right field, bringing home Huffman to trim the Syracuse lead to three, 4-1.

That was the only run allowed by Chiefs starting pitcher Phillips Valdez. The right-hander threw seven innings while striking out seven batters, walking two, and giving up six hits. The outing improved Valdez's ERA to 2.73 for the season, which is the fourth best in the International League.

The Chiefs added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth. With one out, Gonzalez doubled. Stevenson followed with a double down the left-field line that brought home Gonzalez to make it a 5-1 ballgame. Two batters later, José Marmolejos singled, pushing Stevenson over to third. Moisés Sierra then singled into right field, plating Stevenson for a 6-1 Chiefs advantage.

Syracuse added a run in the ninth. With two outs, Dominguez was hit by a pitch, Gonzalez singled, and Stevenson doubled home Dominguez to put Syracuse up by six, 7-1.

The win gives Syracuse a 12th win in its last 19 games since July 25th, the best record in the International League over that span.

The Chiefs continue their weeklong road trip with the first game of a four-game series in Columbus against the Clippers on Thursday night. RHP Austin Voth is scheduled to start on the mound for Syracuse opposite LHP Adam Wilk for the Columbus. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
