
Lightning Sign Goaltender Jaroslav Janus

TAMPA BAY, Fla. - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have signed goaltender Jaroslav Janus to a three-year, entry-level contract, Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Brian Lawton announced today. Janus has been assigned to the Admirals.
Janus, a 5-foot-11, 192-pound goaltender from Presov, Slovakia, appeared in his first two professional games with the Admirals earlier this season on a Professional Tryout Contract. He recorded an impressive 1.52 goals-against average and.939 save percentage with an 0-2-0 record. He made his pro debut on October 14 at Albany, stopping 27 of 29 shots in a 3-1 setback. The Admirals NHL parent club, the Tampa Bay Lightning, drafted Janus in the sixth round (162nd overall) of last summer's NHL Entry Draft.
Janus was released from his Professional Tryout Contract on November 4 and joined his junior club, the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League. Janus has appeared in 13 games with the Otters this season posting a 7-4-2 record with a 2.81 goals-against average and.918 save percentage. He ranks 11th in the OHL in goals-against average and seventh in save percentage.
Last season, Janus posted a 25-20-3 record with a 3.24 goals-against average in 49 games with Erie. He led the Otters in games played, wins, shutouts with three and save percentage at.908. He also played in five playoff games with Erie, posting a shutout and a 1-4-0 record.
Janus has played in 110 career OHL games, posting a 45-53-7 record with a 3.69 goals-against average.
Janus played well at the 2009 World Junior Championships with Team Slovakia. He posted a 3-4-0 record with a 3.20 goals-against average and a.932 save percentage in seven games. He was named the tournament's top goaltender by attending media.
The Admirals are in the midst of a three-game road trip and will face the Adirondack Phantoms in the second game of that trip tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
The next home action for the Admirals will be a pair of games against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday and Saturday, January 8-9. Friday is All Faith Night with special discounted group tickets available for organizations of all faiths.
