Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI- The New Year was not kind to the Milwaukee Admirals as they dropped a 6-2 decision to the Houston Aeros Friday night at the Bradley Center in the team's first home game on New Year's Day in team history. Triston Grant and Mark Santorelli tallied the goals for the Admirals, who saw their six-game home winning streak brought to an end.
The Aeros struck the first blow, when Houston center Chad Rau posted his ninth goal of the season, scraping up a loose puck in front of Milwaukee goalie Mark Dekanich and punching it into the netting at 1:02 of the first period. Shortly thereafter Houston's Jaime Sifers scored again making it 2-0 at 8:52 in the first.
The Admirals were able to get on the board at 10:49. Controlling the puck behind the net, Hugh Jessiman distributed to Alternate Captain Ben Guite, just outside the left side of the trapezoid. Guite found Mark Santorelli in the slot and Santorelli was able to chip the puck into the net before Brust could react. With the Admirals down 2-1 it seemed the home team was back in the game.
A tripping penalty against Houston's Carson McMillan put the Ads on the power play at 18:01 of the first period. But poor puck control in the offensive zone led to a short handed break away. The Aeros' Danny Irmen was able to beat Dekanich glove-side for his eighth goal of the year. At 3-1, it marked the game winning goal and sapped any momentum that the Admirals had generated.
It did not take long into the second period for Houston to add to their lead with a slap shot deflection goal by Nathan Smith in front of the net, his fifth of the year.
The scoring would continue for Houston as Codie Almon fired the puck past the glove of Chet Pickard and through the pipes for a score of 5-1 at 3:30 of the second.
Jon DiSalvatore completed the scoring for Houston with his 13th marker of the season to push their lead to 6-1.
With the game well out of reach, Milwaukee's Triston Grant was able to find the net after corralling an errant Ben Guite slap shot to end the scoring for the evening at 6-2.
The Admirals head off on a three game road trip beginning tomorrow in Toronto before returning to the Bradley Center on Thursday, January 7 against the San Antonio Rampage at 7:00 pm.
