January 14, 2012 - ECHL (ECHL)
Wheeling Nailers News Release

CINCINNATI, OH- Earlier in the week, the Wheeling Nailers acquired forward Peter Lenes in a trade with the Trenton Titans. Playing in just his third game with his new team on Saturday, Lenes looks as though he is fitting in just fine, as he picked up two goals and two assists, as the Nailers took on the Cincinnati Cyclones at U.S. Bank Arena. Unfortunately for Wheeling, Robert Slaney's second marker of the night was the difference, as Cincinnati won 5-4 in overtime.

The Nailers came bursting out of the gates at the start of the contest, and cashed in with a goal at the 2:20 mark of the opening period. Joe Tolles took a feed from Peter Lenes in the slot, and snapped a wrist shot into the right side of the net. Later in the frame, Wheeling extended the lead, thanks to a power play goal. Zach Hansen slipped the puck down the right wing wall to Mickael Bedard, who stepped into the right circle, and lit the lamp with a low wrist shot.

Early in the second period, the Cyclones began to turn the tables on Wheeling, starting with a tally at the 1:21 mark of the middle frame. Mathew Sisca drove a slap shot on goal that was stopped by Patrick Killeen, but the rebound dropped out to Anthony Luciani, who put it back in. A little more than five minutes later, the home team tied the score, as Cincinnati had the Nailers' defense scrambling, allowing Michael Pelech to score on the left side of the ice. Later in the period, the two squads exchanged goals, with Garrett Wilson giving the Cyclones a brief lead with a goal on a one-timer from the right circle, before Peter Lenes answered for Wheeling with a backhanded wraparound on the power play, leaving the game tied at three after 40 minutes of play.

Cincinnati retook the lead at the 6:37 mark of the third period, Chris Clark tripped and fell in the corner, allowing Dan Eves to find Robert Slaney for a goal from the right circle. However, the Nailers came back to tie the score with 3:26 left in regulation. Olivier Dame-Malka sent a long pass ahead to Peter Lenes, who rocketed in a slap shot from the left circle.

Lenes' fourth point of the night sent the game into overtime, and at the 2:36 mark of the extra session, Robert Slaney put home the rebound of his initial shot on the right side of the crease.

Chet Pickard picked up the win for the Cyclones, making 25 saves on 29 shots. Patrick Killeen made a few phenomenal saves for the Nailers, but came up short, despite a 32-save effort.

The Wheeling Nailers return to WesBanco Arena on Sunday Janaury 15th at 4 p.m. when they host the Cincinnati Cyclones. Fans can purchase the Sunday Family Four Pack for just $54. The Four pack includes four game tickets, hotdogs, sodas and large popcorn. Following the game fans can skate with the team.
