Express Earn Point in 15 Round Shootout Loss

Estero, FL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, struck twice in the third period, but fell short in a 15 round shootout, and fell 4-3 to the Everblades at the Germain Arena on Saturday night.

For the second straight night, Florida jumped ahead with the first goal of the game. 9:24 into the first frame, C David Rutherford led a 2-on-1 into the Chicago zone, and placed a shot over the shoulder of G Peter Mannino, giving Florida a 1-0 lead. The Express counted with 3:34 left in the first, when D Josh Burrows made a great move along the left wing, walked in on goal, and snapped the puck under the leg pad of Florida G John Muse, evening the score at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

Florida took control on the scoreboard in the middle frame, was Rutherford added his second goal of the night with a nifty bit of stickhandling, putting Florida up 2-1 9:24 into the second stanza. The Everblades added to the lead with 7:37 left in the period, as LW Matt Marquardt had two blocked shots bounce right back to him and buried his third attempt. Chicago led in shots on goal 20-15 after two periods, but trailed 3-1 heading into the final frame.

Chicago cashed in on the power play in the third period, starting with F Pierre-Luc Faubert blasting home a shot from the slot 3:42 into the period, bringing the Express back to within one. RW Tyler Donati followed up with a goal of his own, one-timing a pass from D Jonathan Zion through the legs of Muse, evening the score at 3-3 with 11:27 left in the game, and forcing the contest into overtime.

After a scoreless overtime, the game went into a 15 round shootout, where the Everblades outlasted Chicago as D Ryan Donald scored the deciding goal, dropping Chicago by the 4-3 score.
