Lemurs Sweep Doubleheader From Diablos, Including Walk Off In Nightcap

El Paso Diablos News Release
LAREDO, TX- The Diablos entered Friday's series opening double-header with Laredo with a chance to vault back into second place, but Lemurs took both games, including a thriller in the nightcap, to move into first place in the South division.
Laredo began the night with a 15-1 blowout victory, punctuated by a grand slam by Lemurs newcomer Kevin Nichols. It was game two of the twin bill, however, that turned into a gut-wrencher for El Paso.
Tied 2-2 throughout most of the night, the Diablos took a one-run lead on an RBI double by Zane Chavez and took a 3-2 advantage into the bottom of the sixth inning. (Note: each game was seven innings in length because of doubleheader rules).
The Lemurs, however, took the lead themselves when Stephen Pearson's drive to left evaded outfielder J.J. Muse, scoring the tying run and putting Pearson on third. A wild pitch from Justin Harper on a strike three pitch to Anthony Scelfo then scored Pearson to put Laredo up 4-3.
Not to be outdone, El Paso rallied during its last at-bat with three runs despite only one ball hit out of the infield. Two Lemurs errors helped the Diablos on their way to a three-run inning to take a 6-4 advantage into the bottom of the seventh.
The Lemurs put runners on first and second facing the Diablos closer, Marcel Prado. Uriak Marquez, a former Diablo, then hit a deep drive to center which sailed over the head of Mitch Einertson, scoring one run. The back runner, Philip Incaviglia, started to run home but was held up at third and was caught in between the bases.
Then, the throw back to third skipped under the glove of Reid Fronk, took a hop and bounced into the stands. By rule, Marquez and Incaivlia were both awarded home plate, giving the Lemurs the victory.
The loss drops the Diablos three games back of the now first place Lemurs with a 44-45 record and 11 games to play.
