
Lemurs Win Ninth in a Row

Laredo, TX - A two run sixth gives the Laredo Lemurs a 5-3 lead that they would not relinquish to the El Paso Diablos Saturday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
With the game tied at three the Lemurs started off the sixth with a Jimmy Mojica single. With John Allen at the plate Diablos relief pitcher Ronnie Morla threw a wild pitch to send Mojica to second. Allen took advantage of the RBI opportunity by driving in Mojica with a double down the left field line to give the Lemurs a 4-3 Lead. The next two batters would get out with Allen at second, then the hot hitting Uraik Marquez singled to drive in Allen to give the Lemurs a 5-3 lead.
In the fourth the Lemurs found themselves down 3-1 when Jimmy Mojica hit a leadoff homer to make it 3-2 Diablos, two outs later Javier Brito hit a solo homerun to tie up the game at three. Jimmy Mojica had a huge day for the Lemurs going four for four, with three singles, a homerun, and three runs scored on the night.
Edwin Walker picked up the win for the Lemurs working out of trouble in the sixth and seventh against the Diablos to keep them stranded at three runs. Walker pitched three, giving up two hits, a walk, with six strikeouts.
Mike Benacka picked up his 10th save of the season as he shut down the Diablos with two strikeouts in the ninth.
The Lemurs pitching staff struck out 11 batters making that the 23rd time this year that the staff has had 10 or more strikeouts in a game. The Lemurs lead the league in strikeouts with 680 on the season.
Tonight's win is the ninth in a row for the Laredo Lemurs and they are now a game and a half above the Grand Prairie Airhogs in the South division of the American Association.
