Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts acquired outfielder Steve Stanley from the Freedom Pro Baseball League's Arizona Centennials in exchange for cash prior to the American Association's deadline for roster moves on Friday night.
Stanley hit .307 in 31 games for the Centennials with one home run and 16 RBI. Stanley scored 25 runs and drew 20 walks against just seven strikeouts. A left-handed hitter and fielder, Stanley spent five seasons in the Oakland Athletics' organization from 2002-2006, reaching Triple-A Sacramento in 2004. The 32-year-old Stanley is a lifetime .292 hitter in the affiliated minor leagues with more base hits (482) than games played (432). Stanley has a career .371 on-base percentage and has walked nearly as many times (211) as he has struck out (226). Stanley was drafted by Oakland in the second round in 2002 out of the University of Notre Dame. Stanley hit .384 during a four-year career with the Fighting Irish, including a .439 mark as a senior. The Oxford, OH native is expected to be in uniform for Saturday night's game versus Gary SouthShore.
The Wingnuts removed left-handed pitcher Jeff Nadeau from the Inactive List and have placed him on their active roster. Nadeau was 0-1 with a 4.35 ERA in 39.1 innings over four starts and 16 relief appearances. Nadeau last worked on July 22nd versus Fargo-Moorhead and is expected to start for Wichita on Sunday afternoon.
The Wingnuts also placed center fielder Mike Conroy on the 7-Day Disabled List, retroactive to August 22nd.
The Wingnuts' active roster now stands at 23. American Association clubs may carry up to 23 players during the final 10 days of the regular season.
