Jonathan Meyer extended his hitting streak to 13 games, and Kody Hinze hit his fourth home run of the season as the Lexington Legends took the opener of a four-game series with Asheville 5-1 Tuesday night at Applebee's Park.

Three Asheville errors led to two runs for the Legends in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Jake Goebbert reached first base when third baseman Joe Sanders was unable to handle Goebbert's line drive. J.D. Martinez doubled, scoring Goebbert, and an error on catcher Jose Gonzalez allowed Martinez to advance to third. He scored when Kody Hinze's grounder was bobbled by shortstop Helder Velazquez.

After Asheville scored a run in the fourth inning, the Legends took a 4-1 lead in the sixth when Hinze homered to left center field after Martinez had singled.

The Legends added a final run in the seventh inning on a double by Goebbert and a single by Martinez.

Meyer doubled in the first inning and added a single in the eighth, bringing his average to .404 for the season, fourth in the South Atlantic League.

Robby Donovan (1-1) pitched the first six innings for Lexington to get the win. Arcenio Leon allowed two hits over the final three innings to earn his second save.

The two teams will meet again Wednesday night at Applebee's Park. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
