Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - In coordination with The Goldklang Group, the Charleston RiverDogs will enshrine Jax Robertson of the Pittsburgh Pirates into the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame on Friday, April 30, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.
Robertson will be presented with a bronze plaque on behalf of the RiverDogs and The Goldklang Group, the RiverDogs' owners, prior to Friday's game to commemorate his contributions to the foundation of player development for the Major Leagues.
Robertson, Pittsburgh's Special Assistant to the General Manager, has worked in major league front offices and scouting departments for more than 30 years. Following his days as a catcher in the Chicago Cubs' minor league system in 1974, the Wisconsin native received his master's degree in sports administration from Ohio University. Prior to his current position with the Pirates, Robertson spent time in numerous scouting positions with the New York Yankees and Florida Marlins, and held the Director of Scouting title with the Detroit Tigers from 1988-1991.
Robertson joins Terry Ryan (Minnesota Twins), Dave Yoakum (Chicago White Sox), Bob Miske (New York Yankees) and Ken Stauffer (Tampa Bay Rays) to make up the Professional Baseball Scouts Hall of Fame Class of 2010. All of the honorees' plaques will be displayed in the Professional Scouts Hall of Fame shrine at each of the four minor league clubs operated by The Goldklang Group (Charleston RiverDogs, Ft. Myers Miracle, Hudson Valley Renegades and St. Paul Saints).
The Goldklang Group activated a ballpark campaign in 2008 to spotlight the tremendous dedication of Professional Baseball Scouts, tireless and devoted individuals who spend a significant amount of their lives on the road and create recognition for their invaluable contributions to the game of baseball.
The criteria for induction includes a minimum of 20 years of pro scouting experience, with selection based on a combination of quantifiable success in the field, contributions made to the game in other areas of the sport whether professional or amateur, and importantly, their involvement and dedication to the local community that is honoring them through induction.
