Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats (8-5) crushed the Augusta GreenJackets 11-3 Tuesday evening at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta, GA.
The Gnats offense pounded out season-high 18 hits and scored a season-best 11 runs. Six different Gnats had multiple hits and the team collected a season-high eight extra-base hits and four stolen bases. Shortstop Wilmer Flores led the way for Savannah going 3-5 with a double, a two run home run and five RBI. In the first 12 games of the season, the 18-year old Flores is hitting .380/.415/.520 (AVG/OBP/SLG). Catcher Kai Gronauer was 4-6 with a double and a pair of RBI while DH Cesar Puello doubled twice and drove home two runs to extend his hitting streak to six straight games.
Savannah scored four times in the top of the first inning to take control of this game early. Doubles from Flores, 1B Jeff Flagg, and Puello all brought home runs. The Gnats added a run in the third when Gronauer drove home Rafael Fernandez.
Flores had a big hand in blowing the game open late. In the sixth inning, he drilled a two-run home run to make the score 7-1. In the seventh, the Gnats scored four more times and Flores drove home two of those runs with a bases loaded single to centerfield.
Working with the lead all night, starter Mark Cohoon finished six innings to earn his third straight win to start the year.
The Gnats and âJackets play game two of their four-game set Wednesday at 7 PM. RHP Collin McHugh (1-1, 4.50) for the Gnats will take on RHP Jorge Bucardo (0-1, 4.00) for Augusta. News/Talk 630 and www.sandgnats.com will carry all of the action live.

Savannah returns home on April 24th to host the Hickory Crawdads. Gates open at 4:30 with live music presented by Live Wire and Fireworks presented by Kix 96 follow the game. There will be a special "Hosea Feed the Hungry" event at Grayson Stadium on April 24th from 11-4 pm.
