Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, NJ - The BlueClaws won their fourth game in a row Tuesday night, taking down the Hagerstown Suns 4-3 in 11 innings.
Jonathan Villar drove in Adam Buschini for the winning run from second with two outs in the 11th. Villar sent a high chopper to short giving Buschini enough time to get home and Villar enough time to reach first without a throw.
It was the first time this season the BlueClaws won a game in extra innings, and only the second time Lakewood won a game that was decided by two or fewer runs.
Josh Zied (2-0) pitched two solid innings in relief of starter Matt Way to pick up his second win. Way began his evening in the top of the fourth and allowed three runs (one earned) on six hits in six innings, striking out five.
Joe Blanton started the game to become the 13th Phillie to make a rehab appearance with the BlueClaws, striking out two in two perfect innings. Blanton only had to throw 13 pitches to record six outs.
The BlueClaws are now 14-8 when a Phillie rehabs with the team.
Dean Weaver (1-1) took the loss for the Suns, allowing two hits and the winning run in the eleventh.
The BlueClaws actually had a chance to end the game a lot sooner. The Suns tied the score at three in the seventh after J.P. Ramirez scored on a Way wild pitch. Lakewood then had a runner in scoring position in the eighth, ninth, and tenth innings but were unable to get them home until Villar's heroics decided the game in the eleventh.
ClawsNotes:MMA Lightweight Champion Frank Edgar will throw out a ceremonial first pitch at FirstEnergy Park on Thursday. Edgar, a Toms River native, became the fourth lightweight champ on April 10th defeating BJ Penn in Abu Dhabi.
